My sister recently came to visit me with our mom and her best friend from Yucaipa, CA & Lake Elsinore, CA. Our intentions were to have fun around the valley and shoot, however, we only had a couple of hours during the middle of the day (high sun = bad light & sweaty models). It was over 100 degrees in my beautiful town and when temperatures get this high, some outdoor business close their gates early, before the sun hits it's highest peak. I was dying to take them to Moorten's Botanical Garden in Palm Springs but being an outdoor business, their summer hours were 9:00am-1:00pm and it was 1:10pm as we were leaving my apartment.
I had to think quick, what is another unique location that we could go to during the hottest part of the day in the valley? I remembered a street that I drive on about three times a week in La Quinta; I thought about the beautiful yet different architecture, the mountain views, and the landscaping; everything on this street always looked so pretty and put together to me so that's where we all headed off to.
The street is called Obregon in the La Quinta Cove but that isn't the only attractive street in the cove, it's just the one I see most often. I am super excited to go back to this same location in the future with other models and clients. When the weather cools down a little more I will also most likely explore more of the La Quinta Cove for more distinct locations.
Below are my favorite photos from our 30 minutes in the high sun, hopefully next time I can go at sunrise or during evening golden hour.
